Doona & bulky item wash

Doona wash, done in one go.

Step by step

How to wash a doona at Laundré.

  • Check the care label — most synthetic and many feather doonas are machine washable.
  • Choose an 18 kg washer for a queen, or the 27 kg washer for a king or heavy doona.
  • Use a small amount of gentle detergent (or one Laundré Pod) and a warm wash — hot water is free.
  • Move it to an extra-large dryer on a medium heat, and give it room to tumble so it dries evenly.
  • Check the centre is completely dry before you take it home — damp filling can go musty.

FAQs

Common questions.

Can I wash a doona or quilt?

Yes — this is one of the most popular reasons people visit. An 18 kg machine suits most queen doonas and the 27 kg machine handles king doonas, heavy blankets and bulky bedding.

How much should I put in a dryer?

Airflow is everything. Leave plenty of room for clothes to tumble — if you have a lot, split it across two dryers. An overstuffed dryer takes much longer and costs more.

Can I wash a feather doona?

Many feather and down doonas are machine washable — always check the care label first. Use a gentle detergent, a warm wash, and dry thoroughly on medium heat. Adding a couple of clean tennis balls helps break up clumps.

How long does it take to dry a doona?

It depends on the size and filling. Give it plenty of room in an extra-large dryer and check the centre before you finish — bulky items usually need longer than everyday clothes.

Is hot water extra?

No. Warm and hot water washes are free at Laundré — you pay the same price whichever temperature you choose.
